Life can get busy, unpredictable, and at times overwhelming. When schedules shift and seasons change, it’s easy to let our routines slip away. But sticking with your routine — even in a modified form — can have a powerful impact on both your physical and mental well-being.
Routines offer a sense of structure and stability. They create pockets of predictability in an otherwise hectic world, which helps reduce stress, support healthier habits, and even boost your mood. The good news? You don’t have to stick to your routine perfectly for it to make a difference. Even keeping just a few core elements intact can help you maintain balance during busy times.
Here are a few simple ideas to keep your routine strong, even when life gets chaotic:
Identify Your Non-Negotiables: Pick two or three habits that are essential for you — whether it’s a morning walk, a 10-minute meditation, or prepping a healthy breakfast. Focus on keeping these in place no matter what.
Be Flexible with Timing: Maybe you can’t hit the gym at your usual hour or cook dinner every night — and that’s okay. Adjust the timing or simplify the task, but aim to honor the intention behind it.
Set a "Bare Minimum" Version: On your busiest days, have a scaled-down version of your routine ready to go. For example, if your regular workout is 45 minutes, commit to 10 minutes of stretching instead. Something is always better than nothing!
Anchor Habits to Existing Activities: Tie your routine to something you already do daily. For instance, meditate right after brushing your teeth or prep tomorrow’s lunch while your coffee brews.
Give Yourself Grace: Life ebbs and flows. Missing a day or two doesn't mean you're "off track." It means you're human. Focus on consistency over perfection.
Remember: maintaining even a small part of your routine can be a powerful way to feel grounded, energized, and more in control — no matter what’s happening around you.
Feeling like your routine could use a little extra support? I'd love to help you create habits that fit your real life — not just your ideal life.
